چکیده
Method of Study The patients reported in this series were seen as routine referrals to the cardiac clinic of the City of Hope Medical Center during the course of one calendar year. In each instance, the patient was thought by his referring physician to have organic heart disease. In addition to routine 14-lead electrocardiograms, each patient had a vectorcardiogram made with 3-lead systems (Kimura, Grishman, and Frank), a phonocardiogram,* and a cardiac fluoroscopic examination. Cardiac catheterization was performed on each patient. An Electronics-for-Medicine multichannel photographic recorderd was employed for a permanent pressure record. Oxygen saturation data were recorded on Ensco and Waters indirect oximeters, and were checked at intervals during the procedure with Van Slyke gasometric determinations. Five minutes of exercise on a bicyele ergometer at the rate of 30 ergs per minute was carried out in most instances. In each case dye-dilution curves were obtained with multiple injection sites throughout the right heart and recorded by continuous sampling from the radial artery. Indocyanine green was the dye indicator employed. Cardiac output was determined by the method of Fick,9 as well as from the dye

Elevation of serum lactate dehydrogenase in patients with pectus excavatum
INTRODUCTION Pectus excavatum is the most common congenital chest wall deformity and the depression of the anterior chest wall, which compresses the internal organs. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of pectus excavatum on blood laboratory findings. MATERIAL AND METHODS From March 2011 to December 2011, 71 patients with pectus excavatum who visited Seoul Saint Mary Ho...
متن کاملSymptomatic Pectus Excavatum in Seniors: An Exploratory Study on Clinical Presentation and Incidence in Daily Practice
Objectives. Doctors all over the world consider a pectus excavatum usually as an incidental finding. There is some evidence suggesting that a pectus excavatum may cause symptoms in the elderly. It is not known how often a pectus excavatum occurs and how strong the relation is with symptoms. Methods. In hospitals and general practice data, we searched for evidence of a connection between cardiac...
متن کاملStrategies for Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing of Pectus Excavatum Patients
The purpose of this paper is to provide strategies for cardiopulmonary exercise testing of pectus excavatum patients. Currently, there are no standardized methods for assessing cardiovascular and pulmonary responses in this population; therefore, making comparisons across studies is difficult if not impossible. These strategies are intended for physicians, pulmonary technicians, exercise physio...
متن کاملSurgical correction of pectus excavatum and carinatum.
The author presents three decades of experience in the management of anterior chest wall deformities. During this period more than 800 operations were performed on patients with pectus excavatum and carinatum. In this series, there was no death and serious complications were rare. The author believes that the principles on which surgical treatment of pectus excavatum should be based are as foll...
متن کاملPreoperative and postoperative abnormalities in chest x-ray indices and in lung function in pectus deformities.
In 88 patients with pectus deformities radiologic chest indices and routine pulmonary function tests were measured before and 1 to 20 years after corrective surgery. A combination of anteroposterior indices at the upper and lower level of the chest were investigated to quantitate and to discriminate the different pectus deformities. The study comprised four groups: pectus excavatum, pectus cari...
